We often mentioned the importance of leaf collection to avoid them smothering and killing your grass. You can make this job easier by using your mower to collect the leaves, and give the lawn a light trim at the same time. This will make the grass look more even and improve your lawn and house kerb appeal.
The best advice is to remove leaves regularly throughout the autumn period to avoid damage. Leaving the leaves on the lawn until they’ve finally all fallen from the trees may seem like a good way to deal with the problem, but it isn’t. The longer leaves lay around, the thicker they accumulate the greater the damage that will occur to your grass. Regular raking and mowing are the best ways to ensure a healthy lawn come spring.
So keep your mower ready for a quick winter cut and leaf collection, after all, the grass is enjoying the current weather conditions with gentle grass growth.
When you are doing this, keep an eye out for moss in your lawn, moss just loves these autumn conditions. We are currently treating many lawns with our special lawn conditioner and moss control. However, many lawns suffer from thatch and compaction issues, which needs to be tackled mechanically e.g. aeration and scarification. If you’re feeling your lawn could be better and would like some advice this autumn or next spring, call us on 0115 837 8439.
