The Need to Feed…

If your lawn has turned brown or straw coloured, there’s no need to worry; prolonged high temperatures and low rainfall are affecting many lawns, turning brown is natural.

Established, well-maintained lawns, will usually recover once adequate rainfall returns.

Below is a guide to giving your lawn the best chances for recovery even when the lawn is brown.

3 tips to help with recovery?

  • If you haven’t been watering, don’t start now
  • If you decide to cut you lawn, raise the cut height
  • Continue with an active care programme, our specialist feeds will aid recovery when grass growth restarts.

Why the Need to Feed….

We often get asked, why feed the lawn when it is brown?

Below are some of the key benefits:

✔ Your lawn will need a “kick Start” to recovery. We will apply a balanced feed containing Macro and Micro nutrients.
✔ The feed will not need watering in.
✔ The grass plant will recover from the crown, feeding will promote growth and help fill in grasses that have been damaged by local conditions.
✔ The balanced feed and your regular cutting will help grasses and new shoots called Tillers.
✔ You can relax, everything will be in place ready to get to work on helping with recovery when conditions are right.

Our experience of lawns missing treatments during these conditions include:

x The recovery period will be longer when growth conditions return.
x The lawn has less recovery energy to help “fill in” plants damaged/killed by local conditions.
x Autumn lawn feeds are lower in “N” Nitrogen and focus on root development.
x Reduced summer input of “N” Nitrogen could result in a patchy appearance.
x Problem weeds miss out on an important “spot weed” treatment for difficult to control weeds.

Giving your lawn extra annual TLC…

Let your lawn breathe including Soil Improver (Aeration Solid Tine)
** Highly Recommended **

  • Create the ideal environment for air, water flow to aid root development and lawn health;
  • Aeration creates deep holes into the lawn creating the ideal environment for our natural soil improver to work deep into the root zone;
  • This natural and cost-effective way of improving soil health and is ideal for all family and fine luxurious lawns.

There are millions of bacteria and fungi living in your soil, and all of this life and organic material is what helps the grass grow. Without aeration, eventually, the soil will become stagnant and lifeless because it lacks the nutrients and oxygen needed to nurture plant life. The solution: to create this healthy soil without harming your lawn is soil enrichment

Soil Enrichment (Lawn Lover)
** Highly Recommended **

Our 100% natural Soil Enrichment programme consists of four applications during the year, comprising Soil Improver (*2) and Biology Booster (*2). It naturally improves soil structure, relieving compaction, plus encourages and feeds the natural soil web.

Lawns that enjoy Greener Gardens Soil Enrichment program exit periods of stress quicker and healthier.

It is suitable for all lawns and the probiotic shake your lawn would ask for!

Dont panic….

Experience of these conditions, in particular 2018, is that lawns that continued to enjoy our seasonal feeds were provided with a “kick start” and made a quicker recovery when conditions improved, than those that didn’t

During the recovery period it also highlighted lawns with underlying issues such as compaction and thatch. We can help advise on addressing these conditions with treatments like Aeration, Scarification and our Soil Enrichment program.

Cutting advice for lawn recovery….

Resume regular mowing as the growth rate increases, correct mowing will make the difference between a “so-so” lawn and a great one.

These few simple steps make a big difference in your lawns appearance, encouraging a thicker sward and deeper colour.

  • A light topping of the grass is always better than a severe “hacking”;
  • Select the correct cutting height for your lawn;
  • Keep trimming the edges for that smart professional look.
